Members of the band Korn have banned their tour bus drivers from using British Petroleum (BP) oil and are urging other bands touring this summer to ban BP products, as well.  This, of course, is a mark of protest against the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

The Backstreet Boys are on board and sending out their message as well.

“I’m devastated by what I’ve seen firsthand and on the news,” says Nick Carter of BSB. “I’ve always been a marine activist and seeing pictures of oil-covered animals breaks my heart.”

“We just played Biloxi last week and I have to tell you people are really worried down there. This boycott is about making a statement, letting people know how we feel and to stand for something,” said fellow BSB’er Brian Littrell.

“The daily images are hard to watch,” says Korn frontman Jonathan Davis. “We need to do our part to let BP know there are consequences for causing something like this. We want to send a message to corporations like BP so that they will take more preventative measures in the future.  The more costly their punishment, the more money they will spend to make sure disasters like this don’t happen again. It’s plain and simple capitalism.”

Korn is headlining the Mayhem Festival that is touring across the country this summer. And the remaining 4 members of the Backstreet Boys are set to kick off their summer tour on Friday (June 11) at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

Among the tragedy of many losing their houses and lives to the severe Tennessee floods, Kenny Chesney Tweets a picture of his ordeal.

On Wednesday (May 5), Chesney posted a photo on Twitter of himself nearly knee-deep in water. He is seen holding a white electric guitar, standing next to a small motorboat filled with several items, including a plastic storage box and a guitar case.

Also, on Wednesday night, Chesney took part in the Anderson Cooper 360 show by calling in and talking to the host, Anderson Cooper and sending footage of the water in Nashville.

On Sunday (May 2), Kenny Tweeted:

“TN is a mess with floods. If you’re fortunate enough to help out, hit up the mid-TN Red Cross Stay safe, everyone.”

And on Wednesday:

“Sending Anderson Cooper footage of my house under water”

The floods have also claimed the Grand Ole Opry House.

Layla Grace sadly lost her battle to cancer on Tuesday, March 9.  She was 2 years old.

Layla’s story touched our hearts and we wish to share it with all of you.  The following is from LaylaGrace.org, which tell the story of this beautiful little girl.

“Layla has always been a healthy child, 80th percentile for weight, a great eater, a great sleeper. She is sweet as pie and a little cuddle monkey (she won’t let you put her down!). She has a very advanced vocab for her age which really helps us manage her pain and give her what she needs as her care continues.

Layla had a great 15 month checkup. At around 16 months her sleep habits and appetite started to change and she started to become more irritable. Mid March appetite began to decrease. At the time we thought we were dealing with a “picky eater”. Beginning of May Layla woke up one morning with a swollen eye. We took her to the doctor and she was treated for an ear infection and the doctor said the swelling was just a result of the ear infection. At the same time we noted that her belly was hard and somewhat distended. She had not had a bowel movement for a few days and we were concerned that she was becoming constipated.

The next day we took her to the pediatrician who put her on Mirilax over the weekend and told us to call back Monday. By Monday morning she was not eating at all, still no dirty diaper, her activity level had decreased and was rubbing her belly and lower back and saying “owie”.

Our pediatrician referred us to a GI specialist to see why she was so constipated and wasn’t eating. On Thursday May 7th as we sat in GI specialists office expecting to be told that Layla would need some kind of treatment for constipation we instead hear words like “Cancer” and “Leukemia”. A series of X-rays and tests were ordered and we were sent home to wait on the results.

That evening about five minutes after we walked in the door we got an urgent call from the GI specialist telling us that the test results were in, that things were not good and that we were to bring Layla into the ER immediately and that a team of doctors would be waiting for us.

Layla has a massive cancerous tumor (Stage 4 Neuroblastoma) in her abdomen. It extends from above her left kidney, around her side, over her belly and wraps around her aorta. In addition, the cancer is in her bone marrow.

Our sweet Layla went from normal happy and healthy to lethargic, in pain, and skin and bones in a matter of a week and a half.”

Layla touched many hearts as her story grew more and more popular through Twitter, which her Mom and Dad updated regularly.  Some of you may have heard the painful story on your local radio station, as Layla’s mom wanted to spread the story of what her daughter went through in hopes to reach people’s awareness.  And knowing that her daughter has touched the lives of so many, means that her life was not in vain.

Donations that were accepted on Layla’s behalf for medical care will still go to help her family with the costly bills, and if there is any money left over, it will be donated to help the research of curing cancer.

Life is precious and shorter than we realize.  Stop and take the time to tell loved ones how much they mean to you.  And if you can, donate your time or money to help stop this miserable disease that takes so many from us too early.  Like a shirt we saw little Layla wearing- “Cancer Sucks”.

Jaycee Dugard was held captive by Phillip and Nancy Garrido for 18 years, and last year, she and her two daughters were found and reunited with her mother, Terry Probyn.

Probyn has just released a home video that reveals a glimpse of Jaycee’s life now that she’s free.

“What my family needs is privacy during the healing process,” Probyn says in the home video.

Jaycee has gotten a driver’s license, is completing her GED  and is planning to go to college. While in captivity, Jaycee did not receive any education.

Please, give us the time we need to heal as a family,” her mother states. “We released this video so you can see we are happy and well…It is my desire to share our miracle with the world.  But it must be on our terms…When we have more to share we will”

Phillip and Nancy Garrido have pleaded not guilty to 29 felony charges against them after Jaycee and her two daughters were rescued.

Very tragic news from Sea World in Orlando today…

A trainer was killed Wednesday (February 24) when a killer whale attacked her in front of a live audience.

Orange County Fire Rescue responded to the Shamu Stadium at the theme park but she could not be revived.

A park guest, Victoria Biniak told WKMG-TV that the trainer had just explained to the audience the show they were about to see, when the whale suddenly came up from the water, grabbed the trainer around the waist and “thrashed her all around” to the point the trainer’s shoe fell off.

“He was thrashing her around pretty good,” Biniak said. “It was violent.”

The guests were asked to leave and the park was closed.

Very sad.  Our condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of the trainer.

Linkin Park is supporting the effort to aid Haitian earthquake victims with their new video “Not Alone.”!

“Not Alone” was written and recorded specifically for the “Download to Donate for Haiti” campaign, which was launched by the band’s non-profit organization Music for Relief.

The song is amazing as is the video.  This is a real treat for LP fans, but more importantly a worthwhile cause.

Daniel Kerrigan, father of Olympic ice skater Nancy Kerrigan, died on Sunday, January 24.  And after some investigating, the death is being treated as a homicide.

A statement from the office of DA Gerry Leone said, in part:

“The Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was cardiac dysrhytmia following a physical altercation with neck compression causing injury to the neck in the form of a cartilage fracture to the larynx area, in a person with hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular heart disease.”

Daniel Kerrigan, 70, was found unresponsive at his Stoneham, Mass., after a violent struggle with his son, Mark Kerrigan, 45.

Mark Kerrigan was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on an elderly person and causing serious bodily injury. And in the police report filed in court, it reads that the son attacked his father during an argument about whether he could use the phone.

Kerrigan pleaded not guilty to a felony assault charge after allegedly telling police that he place his hands on his father’s neck during an altercation with him Jan. 24. New charges could be filed against Kerrigan based on the findings.

Family attorney Tracy Miner said in a statement:

“The Kerrigan family is extremely disappointed that the medical examiner would release a cause of death without having all of the relevant facts.  We believe this finding to be premature and inaccurate.  The Kerrigan family does not blame anyone for the unfortunate death of Dan Kerrigan, who had a pre-existing heart condition.”

The funeral of Daniel Kerrigan took place Jan. 28.

Many celebs came together to raise money for Haiti earthquake relief yesterday, as they were spotted arriving at Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood to record “We Are the World”.

The song was originally recorded 25 years ago and was penned by Lionel Richie and the late Michael Jackson to aid Africa.

Some of the celebs spotted were Barbra Streisand, Harry Connick Jr, Celine Dion, Kanye West, Akon, Usher, Brandy, Nicole Richie , Benji Madden, Miley Cyrus, Carlos Santana, Natalie Cole, Vince Vaughn, Jason Mraz, Justin Bieber, Faith Evans, Jonas Brothers, Adam Levine, Jamie Foxx, and Jennifer Hudson all lent their voices to the project.

Many more were on hand for this great cause.  Can’t wait to hear the updated version of the song!

The Hope for Haiti Now telethon to benefit earthquake victims, was broadcasted by more than 60 television networks last Friday (January 22), and was watched by 83 million people around the world, with 24 million in the United States.

Donations made during the telethon are at more than $61 million, according to MTV.  The music network teamed up with George Clooney and Wyclef Jean to do the telethon.

Clooney hosted the benefit in Los Angeles, Jean was in New York and Anderson Cooper was in Haiti, and featured live performances from many celebs. Some celebrities also manned the phones, taking pledges.

Hope for Haiti Now will be accepting donations for the next six months.
